Projects ->POLEA Lab -> Industrial 5G Lab

This lab is lead by DIHBU, Digital Innovation Hub Industry 4.0. Here we can find a dedicated private 5G network infrastructure in order to perform, validate and scale solutions oriented to industrial scenarios and advanced manufacturing pilots. This lab is part of the POLEA LAB 2024-2026 project.
What is it?

This lab allows the development, testing and validation of solutions related to 5G connectivity technology applied to the industry.
It has the capacity to create 5G private networks (MPN – Mobile Private Network) with independence and security.
Lab elements
The lab integrates the necessary elements and assets for functional testing of robotic elements, connectivity of machine control systems / sensors, digital twins, image processing, virtual scenarios, and advanced data communication, among other solutions.

DEMONSTRATOR: AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE PLATFORM UNDER 5G
This demonstrator shows in operation a kit for the development and validation of autonomous driving solutions in 5G environments, through an autonomous mini-vehicle with specific 5G modem incorporation.
Features
- The chassis of the mini-vehicle platform makes it possible to easily adapt the body to the specific use case.
- The location of the sensors allows a certain flexibility that facilitates the design of the body to adapt it to the final needs.
- The traction modes allow different combinations of wheel rotation, which facilitates maneuvering in tight spaces.
- Battery-electric traction eliminates noise and polluting emissions.
- The implementation of open source control enables the programming of routes or missions from third-party platforms and graphical control interfaces.

5G connectivity enables the vehicle to communicate with its environment in real time, making it possible to increase vision and improve the safety of the vehicle and its environment.
Among the fields of application of the base technology of this demonstrated technology are:
- Industrial sector: For transport of material between areas, logistics tasks or tasks of recognition of areas integrating special sensorics for the monitoring of environmental variables.
- Mobility sector: Last mile delivery in urban areas, transport of people in urban environments or as a
urban environments or as a towing vehicle. - Agricultural sector: Cargo transport, towing vehicle or logistics in non-asphalted terrain.
asphalted terrain. - Military sector: Transport of material in places difficult to access, troop accompaniment on foot or transport of wounded
DEMONSTRATOR: IMMERSIVE TELEOPERATION: NATURAL VISION AND HAPTIC CONTROL UNDER 5G
Immersive technology is aimed at improving the efficiency and technology of human-robot interactions in the field of teleoperated robots. We have a reliable model that operates under private 5g network and allows immersive stereoscopic visualization synchronized with the motor gestures performed by the operator.

Features
- Dynamic Stereoscopic Vision: Device that replicates the movement of the human head in real time, equipped with a stereoscopic camera and visualization through VR glasses.
- Stereoscopic Video Streaming with Ultra-low Latency: Real-time transmission of stereoscopic video with minimal latency (less than 30ms), supported over a private 5G network that allows a remote operator to obtain a full immersive view without having to worry about the possible nausea caused in these scenarios by other wireless technologies such as Wifi.
- Haptic control: Remote control system that captures human movements, translating them into commands for robots or devices, providing tactile feedback.
Application fields
- Mining and oil industry: Inspection and operation of machinery in mines or oil platforms.
- Defense and Security: Operation of drones or robots for reconnaissance or explosives deactivation missions.
- Rescue and Emergencies: Search and rescue in disaster areas.
- Agriculture: Operation of agricultural machinery, such as tractors or harvesters.
- Maritime Industry: Inspection and maintenance of underwater structures, such as pipelines or bridge piers.
- Medical: Performing remote surgeries.
- Automotive Industry: testing of autonomous vehicles or remote control of vehicles in specific situations.
- Space Industry: Exploration and operation of machinery on planets or satellites.
