Cassini Challenges 2024: Innovation competition to boost space entrepreneurship

Explore the future with the CASSINI Challenges 2024. This European competition seeks innovative solutions that leverage space technologies to tackle real-world problems on Earth. From improving logistics with satellite navigation to monitoring the environment through Earth observation.

The 2024 CASSINI Challenges will focus on the thematic “Make it with Space!” that is designed to inspire and recognize innovative uses of space technology. Applicants are requested to identify a pressing commercial, social or environmental challenge on Earth and propose an innovative solution which should:

  • Address the challenge identified using space technology in the fields of satellite navigation, Earth observation, satellite communication or space surveillance and tracking; and
  • Contribute to the EU competitiveness and innovation of the EU Space Industry.

Applicants can participate in the contest by presenting an idea, or a prototype, or a product, depending on the maturity of the technology at the time of the submission.

What are they looking for?

  • Solutions using EU Space (Galileo and Copernicus data, signals, services).
  • Solutions contributing to the competitiveness of the European Space industry in the field of satellite navigation, Earth observation, secure SATCOM or space surveillance and tracking.
  • Solutions highlighting effectiveness, uniqueness, and innovation, with a strong focus on commercial potential and scalability.

Elegibility criteria

Participation in the contest is open on equal terms to economic operators (individuals or teams composed by legal entities and/or natural persons) established in the territory of the Member States of the European Union.

Prizes

  • Track ‘’Submission of an Idea’’: The first fifteen ranked applicants that submitted an idea will receive a prize in amount of € 10,000 each.
  • Track ‘’Submission of a Prototype’’: The first ten ranked applicants that submitted a prototype will receive a prize in amount of € 30,000 each.
  • Track ‘’Submission of a Product’’: The first seven ranked applicants that submitted a product will receive a prize in amount of € 100,000 each.
